This status is completely deserving. Sung Deok Im is the daughter of a traitor but was able to seek entrance into the palace as one of the Prince's maid. Known for her storytelling and unorthodox outlooks on life it does not take long for her to gain the attention of the young Prince. In a world where a maids life depends on the existence and saftey of their master Deok Im goes above and beyond to save Yi San and along the way, an unlikely bond forms that quickly turns into an all defying love. Deok Im is a young woman with uncanny wit and loyalty. Her devotion to San is one that is admirable but she strives to not lose herself in the palace. Deok Im protects and aids San in his ascension to the throne but she never shys away from standing up for her beliefs. If a court lady dyes their sleeve red it shows they belong to the King but Deok Im makes those vows of loyalty without seeking any reward and in the end it is San's love that traps her. The love between San and Deok Im is one that goes against many peoples desires but it never wavers. 'The Red Sleeve' presents a love that is undeniable but also the harsh realities of class prejudices and the court. The consequences of a love that requires possession is one that is bittersweet. Lee Se Young (Deok Im) and Lee Jun Ho (San) have fantastic chemistry and the choice to use deep diegetic sound during moments of building intimacy only made them more intense. 'The Red Sleeve' is a series that may have a bittersweet undertone but it is intensely romantic.
