After finally watching this drama I can completly understand why it is often in the list for most recommended Kdramas. The script is honestly a work or perfection, we have a carefully balanced relationship between hilarious dialogue and then some truths about life.

Although there are matters which are obviously given a brighter outlook we are shown an abundance of inmates and follow as each character develops. Some heal and repent whereas others remain the same. This was a touching series that really tried to convey that those who commit crimes should not be discounted from society. In fact, with the help of the simple but kind Kim Je Hyuk, many of them are given that much needed chance.

The bromance between Je Hyuk and Lee Joon Ho was filled with hilarity but also brotherly warmth and support. Joon Ho does everything he can to protect Je Hyuk and help him strive for his dream despite being in prison. As a character Je Hyuk is a loveable fool who quickly influences those around him. I particularly adored his relationship with Jailbird. It was a story of redemption and Je Hyuk offered Jailbird hope for a better life. Je Hyuk proves that sometimes a second chance is all someone needs.

That is not to say that the entire series is a romanticised version of prison life. Yes, there are many moments of light-hearted interactions but there are also plenty of serious moments that highlight some of the flaws in the South Korean prison system.

Every cast member suited their role and the overall story made this kdrama sublimity. I have nothing but praise for this series, although I expected nothing less from the star-studded cast... Hilarity, life lessons and heart-wrenching emotions with a garnish of romance, what more do you need from a series? 'Prison Playbook' should he fastballed into your MUST WATCHLIST.
