Odds and choices are pushed to participants of a cryptic pursuit in Netflix's upcoming series Squid Game!
Reeling attention with released teasers, Netflix officially announced September 7 to be the launch date of Squid Game.
The series follows an interesting and unique story involving 456 contestants risking their lives in a mysterious survival game with 45.6 billion won at stake.
In the revealed poster, the tagline "45.6 Billion Is Child's Play" makes a powerful first impression. It piques interest with the imagery of the shapes that are used in the squid game: the fallen man in the green tracksuit, the man in pink dragging him away, and the large box with the pink ribbon.
The title is a reference to a simple yet physical and aggressive children's game played in neighborhood alleyways. How will this symbol of childhood fun drive the adult players into peril? Every piece of new information provides more tantalizing hints.
Viewers will find themselves glued to the screen by the tension and suspense from various players desperate enough to participate in a game that could risk their lives and the choices made by people who are pushed to extreme situations.
It is the first TV series of director Hwang Dong-hyuk, whose previous works such as Silenced, Miss Granny, and The Fortress have offered insightful and poignant messages about society.
Lee Jung Jae plays Ki-hun, who lost his job and hit the rock bottom, while Park Hae Soo plays Sang-woo, who gets into trouble after embezzling his company's funds, to capture the raw realities of those who risk their lives through a survival game.
